Bay-be Watch

Tarifa  is a small town, 18 km from Algeciras, that marks the southern most tip of Europe.  It is smack in the middle of the Strait of Gibraltar.  The wind howls in Tarifa.   Cold Atlantic winds funnel in, or warm Mediterranean winds push out through the narrow gap between Europe and Africa.  Due east or due west, the wind shifts, but it never stops.

Add spectacular beaches and Tarifa is a kite surfer’s paradise.

The kites are beautiful in the sky.  I love watching them dance on the breeze, dragging their human cargo over the waves.

Occasionally I fear for the beginner kite surfers.  The wind picks them up and off they fly, out to sea.  I always wonder how many have ended up in Tangiers.

But have no fear novices, there is a lifeguard on duty.

MUST. CLIMB.  MUST.  CLIMB.

Here he comes now, rushing down from his perch to save the day. Or maybe just to get a rice cake.  Hard to tell.

Oh dear, I think the lifeguard forgot his bathing suit bottom.

When he is not patrolling the dangerous waters of the strait, little lifeguard man relaxes with his own sporting adventure.  I think “urban kite strollering” is going to “take off” soon, if you will excuse the pun.
